How to choose a chartplotter that suits you

So you're looking at upgrading an existing chartplotter?

These days, technology has progressed in leaps and bounds to the point that they are now referred to as multifunction displays (MFD).

These devices will accept and display many inputs and are very versatile compared to their older brethren.

We generally ask customers what sort of system they currently have on their vessel as we like to use the KISS philosophy. We don't recommend hybrid systems with multiple brands as integration can be a challenging proposition.

Brands will generally make their newer devices backwards compatible with their older systems but generational technology advances are much more difficult to bridge to the point where it doesn't become economical. If the technology is a recently new one ie: digital over analogue, then brands such as Raymarine will do their best to integrate the newer device so upgrades don't involve a holistic approach.

MFD's come in many styles, sizes and budgets so the obvious questions we ask is:

             *    What is your current system?

             *    What size are you looking for?

             *    What is your budget?

             *    How will you be using the system?

             *    Do you want to be able to see the bottom profile or do you want to be able to use it for fishing? If the answer is yes then that involves the appropriate transducer selection for the technology chosen.

At the end of the day its best to speak with a service dealer as they are trained to perform installations and are supported by the brands being chosen. We are authorised service dealers for Raymarine and Furuno.
